A FEW OF MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Taught self-improvement to inmates of Vanier Correctional Institution.
I was on the founding Board and committees of a housing complex to build Windward Housing Co-op on Queens Quay in Toronto. For 3 years I attended meetings to develop the Co-ops, lobbied the Government, interviewed future members and wrote policies. I did a similar work with Peter Secord Co-op in Scarborough.
I started and ran a Beaver Group (Boy Scouts) in North York with 21 boys ages 6 to 8 years.
Member of OCCPEHR - Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights for 5years. Attended meetings to organize Earth Day in Oakville and EcoFest - a popular yearly event for the public with over 100 exhibitors in the peace/environmental fields.
I helped organize and host many initiatives to educate the public about the environment and peace, video nights, open houses etc. I was involved in campaign development, mailings, giving out leaflets and educating people (staffing tables at events) phoning committee, posters, banner making, was an activist for peace, human rights and the environment etc.
I organized a walk for Earth Hour in downtown Oakville. The Mayor attended along with 40 people. A friend and I developed a campaign to get new volunteers and over a 3 week period we successfully gained 14 new volunteers. I did public speaking and conducted orientation and training.
Started The Bronte Bunch walking club in 1995. This is a walking club with many social activities. I was the leader for Monday night walks and at its busiest time, up to 50 people would attend weekly. I organized Saturday lunches, trips here and abroad, weekends away, biking, golfing, excursions, movies, dinner, theatre, video nights, car rallies, birthday parties, car pooling, etc.
Started a petition to save the Thunder Bay Coast Guard Radio station from closing. Thanks to them for saving lives on Lake Huron, Georgian Bay, North Channel etc. I like to promote local restaurants and events on Manitoulin Island by VHF radio.
I enjoy community involvement and my work as an Officiant gives me great joy and satisfaction in being able to assist people through the milestones in their lives.
